As a platform for building a reliable thumper the humble DR 650 has little competition when it comes to new product.  The motors are unstressed, the frame dynamics are very workable and the asking price for a new one is reasonable. Strip off all the unwanted plastics and turf the exhaust, wheels, lights, tank, seat, brake lines, guards, mirrors and bars and lets start building.
Chunky Shinko tires mounted on 17" aluminium rims, a custom flat seat and hooped tail, retro headlight and vintage tank add to the aesthetic. We have gone with a Suzuki Blue and Pearl White colour theme in a period race look to further compliment the retro styling. The front has been dropped and now handling is a vast improvement over the original on the black top.
The rear guard is polished stainless steel as is the front mounted to an after market fork brace ( not fitted at time of photo shoot ). The Lossa pipes in brushed stainless were fitted using a fabricated splitter produce a deep rumbling note.
The finished bike is sympathetic to the donor with a minimum of frame modifications, the integrity of the original electrics is maintained and the engine has only been given the opportunity to breathe. Essentially still a new bike which is now a total blast to ride.
We can also fit a 790 big bore kit with performance cam, flat side carb and big exhaust if you like a bit of mumbo.
